Andrea Agnelli, the president of the European Clubs Association, has spoken out in favor of improving the Champions League’s structure.

“If we have teams that make individual commitments for future tournaments, they will have to make individual commitments, and if that is the case, [the Super League] will essentially end. I’m hoping it’ll be done in the next few weeks. There are a few things to iron out in terms of tournament eligibility,” Agnelli told The New York Times.

“If we have four extra places, we must determine how they will be allocated – a balance between places for champions and places for good teams in European competitions. We might consider a dual transfer scheme, in which clubs claiming a certain status in foreign competitions is prohibited from buying players from each other, thus improving indirect solidarity with other clubs.

As a result, there will be no transfers worth more than ten million euros among Champions League clubs. Perhaps they can purchase players from smaller countries’ champion players. Such are the issues we’re debating.”
