Junior Minguella, a football consultant, has confirmed that Barcelona could acquire Kylian Mbappe in 2017.
According to Minguella, the then Monaco forward was close to transferring to the Catalan club, but in the end, Blaugrana opted for Ousmane Dembele.
“I confirmed, Yes, it was like that. That’s the true truth. Then my father learned that Neymar had agreed to a PSG contract and was leaving. But the managers of Barca either didn’t realize it or didn’t believe it, and Neymar hadn’t yet verified that he was leaving at the moment, so the club wouldn’t do anything before Neymar quit,” Minguella Marca quotes.
“When it was reported that Neymar was leaving, the coaches and president Bartomeu had reservations about which player to take on as his replacement. They thought at the time that Dembele was a better choice than Mbappe for the squad. It went as far as claiming that no one was Mbappe.
We have arranged a transfer for Mbappe and have settled on an arrangement for EUR 130 million plus 25 million in bonuses. He would have gained 10 to 16 million by himself.”
