‘100 goals isn’t bad for a negative team!’ – Mourinho

Football News

After Tottenham’s win over Crystal Palace, Jose Mourinho shared his delight with his side, saying that hitting the 100-goal mark “is not bad” for a “really negative team.”

Spurs defeated Palace 4-1 on Sunday afternoon to make it nine points in their last three Premier League games.

The north London club has now scored 100 goals in all competitions this season, a fact that Mourinho was able to point out after the game to critics of his perceived defensive style.

“If the stats I was given are right, we scored 100 goals in the season, which is not bad for a very defensive, negative team,” the Portuguese coach said.

“We had a fantastic week. Three games, nine points, and nothing could be better for us than to win nine points this week in preparation for a vital Europa League match against Arsenal next week.”

Tottenham pressed forward from the start against the Eagles, with Gareth Bale breaking the Eagles’ backline after 25 minutes.

After powering his way into the net, Harry Kane fired the ball across goal for a simple tap-in for the Welshman, but Palace equalized just before halftime with a bullet header from Christian Benteke.

Spurs quickly regained the lead in the second half, with Bale doubling his tally by nodding into the net after being teed up once more by Kane.

Moments later, Kane scored the goal his success deserved, curling a spectacular first-time effort from the far corner of the net, and the club captain completed the scoring with a simple header from a Son Heung-min cross, wrapping up a comfortable victory.
