Chelsea’s Guro Reiten believes that pipping Arsenal to the WSL title would mean everything as they take on Leicester this weekend. Chelsea beat Manchester City by one point last season to win the title. Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall dropped to his knees to celebrate their last-minute winner against the defending champions on the first day of the season. The celebration ruffled a lot of feathers in the Chelsea camp with words exchanged between the two managers ever since.
“It would mean everything after the season we have had, with the Champions League which we don’t talk much about – but we want to win the league title, there’s the FA Cup too, and we lost the Continental Cup final,” Guro Reiten said about the rivalry with Arsenal this season. “We love playing with each other, Arsenal and us. It’s the most enjoyable game to play. You want to win, and when you don’t it’s hard. But we knew after that first game it was going to be a long season, and everyone’s dropped a few points here and there. Hopefully, we can be number one when the season is over.”
“Someone once said in the dressing room that if you don’t find this exciting, you’re in the wrong place. We are nervous, but we love that feeling, we want to play games every single week. When you wear the Chelsea shirt, there’s a lot of pressure every single day on us. We love that feeling, to fight for titles, and we want to win,” she added. “Sometimes when you lose, you realize how much you want to make sure it doesn’t happen again. We’ve had that feeling twice this year, and we’ve got to show we’ve learned from it and win the rest of the games this season.”
