England: Reece James defends Trent Alexander Arnold

EPL

Reece James Trent Alexander Arnold

England defender Reece James defended his fellow right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold as the debate continued about a starting berth in the line-up. The No 2 spot has been up for debate with Gareth Southgate blessed with an embarrassment of riches in the position. Both players provide abundant attacking qualities with James being the more physical and defensively sound of the two. Alexander-Arnold has the upper hand when it comes to set-pieces as he has proven with his assists in the Premier League. Only teammate Mohamed Salah registered more assists.

“I make mistakes as well. I gave away a penalty against Hungary so we are both still learning our trade. Liverpool has 95 percent of the ball and he defends less than I have to,” England right-back Reece James said about Trent Alexander-Arnold. “People have a lot of stuff to say and don’t really know the game. Trent is a great player. I’ll try everything I can [to be the first choice]. Only my performances will be able to prove what I can bring. In these games and building into next season, I’ll hopefully be able to show that I’m ready to play every game.”
