Leyton Orient: Ruel Sotiriou

Leyton Orient midfielder Ruel Sotiriou is enjoying his best spell under manager Richie Wellens in League Two. The 21-year-old made his debut for the club four and a half years ago and has recently become one of the ever-presents in the starting line-up. It has taken some effort to reach this level as he had loan spells at Heybridge Swifts, Leatherhead, Bishop’s Stortford, Chelmsford City, Hampton & Richmond, and then Dover Athletic.

“It was frustrating when we started to lose because I still wasn’t really playing, even then, and I felt like I could have helped earlier and we wouldn’t have been in the relegation scrap,” Leyton Orient midfielder Ruel Sotiriou said. “Sometimes these things happen, so I just had to keep going. I feel like when I play a string of games, most of the time, I do well. Earlier in the season, if I was on the team, I felt like I was just taken out as the easy option, rather than based on performance. It was just hard to get confidence and fitness back. When it’s stop-start, it’s hard to really get your quality to the highest it can be.”

I feel like the confidence of the group just dropped because we weren’t picking up results and then we didn’t really know what was going on, to be honest,” he added. “With the way we played, the boys didn’t really know where to be and there were just a lot of long balls. With the players we have – we have a very technical team, in my opinion – we need the ball at certain players’ feet and the movement from us front boys – I don’t think we had that. I felt like we got away with it a bit at the start of the season.”
