Bundesliga Line-Ups

Since the Bundesliga restart came into this fixture, none of those sides had won a game and it was the home side that changed that record in the first half with the bit between their teeth.

Rouwen Hennings and Kenan Karaman both scored in five minutes after USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie opened the scoring to inspire Wednesday’s comeback win at Fortuna Düsseldorf over Schalke.

Fortuna enjoyed 70 percent of the ball through the first stage, which helped them to check out Markus Schubert in the goal of Schalke.

Neither Augsburg nor Paderborn were able to build some momentum in their fight against relegation, with the teams cancel each other out in a 0-0 draw on Matchday 28.

At the kick-off, at the bottom of the table and the adrift of 17th-placed Werder Bremen in three points, Paderborn started with the look of a team ready to fight their way to safety.

But to close opponents with all the hard tackles and lung-busting sprints, the visitors also showed that they could play a bit and they could have taken the lead in five minutes when Streli Mamba fired broad at his mercy with the mark.

In the first chance of the second half, Niederlechener was involved when he drilled a low ball across the goal to Vargas, who was just unable to finish. That seemed to ignite Paderborn back into life and as Holtmann fired a low shot over the goal from a close angle that Luthe did well to tip on the post, they opened the scoring almost.

Union Berlin played for over 45 minutes with ten players as they fought Mainz on Wednesday in a 1-1 home draw to stay ahead of their opponents just outside the Bundesliga’s relegation zone.

For the very first time, one year to the day they were promoted to the Bundesliga, Union was celebrating off the pitch; on it, they hoped not only to celebrate the first goal after the restart but also a marked improvement on their last 4-0 derby loss at Hertha.

The passion took a big blow to give Mainz an early lead when Riddle Baku steered a low-shoot home with care. It was a big boost for the side of Achim Beierlorzer, who started the game three points behind their hosts, losing 5-0 in the weekend to RB Leipzig at home.
