Arsenal was expected to sell two center-backs

Arteta could look to sell both Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos within the upcoming transfer window so as to release transfer funds for arrivals to north London.

According to reports, the Gunner’s boss is keen to restructure his defensive backline within the next transfer window during a bid to finally address issues that have troubled the club’s return to Champions League football for a variety of years.

For Mustafi and Sokratis, that would signal the top of the road for his or her Arsenal careers with the club viewing both central defenders because of the most dispensable options therein position.

Mustafi, at 28, could attract a comparatively favorable fee and such funds are going to be needed for reinvestment in what’s set to be a financially uncertain transfer window.

If both defenders were to go away within the next transfer window, Areta would be left with David Luiz, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers and William Saliba to play at center-back.

As a result, it might be likely that the club will look to reinvest with Dayot Upamecano and Axel Disasi linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Likewise, for his new deal, Mustafi, who has had a rejuvenated role on the side since Mikel Arteta took over, had but 18 months left too.

Arteta is probably going to be a part of the defensive squad, consistent with The Athletic because the Spaniard is bent a defensive reshuffle before next season.
